The Deets & Contact

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

I have to believe the universe conspires to help me achieve my dreams. As a teenager, did I ever think I’d visit 22 countries by 30, despite working a 60-hour a week job? Did I even think I’d have a job that brought me more joy and more challenge than my wildest dreams? Did I believe that this crazy, chaotic, whirlwind of a career would be the exact reason I get to live my dream of frequent travel? Of course not, but the universe conspired with me.

I caught the first spark of the travel fire in elementary school. A project on any country, and I picked Turkey. Fourth-grade me had no clue what existed outside those SoCal freeways, and the pictures of mosques, oceans, and a culture unlike I had ever seen enraptured me. And it’s been on my bucket list ever since.

Star-struck eyes for mosques turned into late-night travel plans scribbled on envelopes and printer paper in high school, planning my graduation trip of a lifetime: a week in London! Doctor Who, Harry Potter-obsessed me was shaking with excitement.

Fast forward two years to college – a summer in Tanzania after a camp counseling gig fell through?? Sign me up!

Weekend trip to Mexico? Absolutely! Road trips to Moab? Grand Canyon? Flagstaff? Havapai? Sure! Graduation, and a 6-month delay before starting my career? Six countries knocked off my bucket list…and 60 added!

And thanks to my wonderful career, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to live and work overseas. However, I know not everyone has that luxury. And sometimes we have to pick bite-sized nuggets to enjoy the world around us. Sometimes across the ocean, sometimes in our back yard.

Now, for the dirty deets – I often travel with my fantastically introverted husband of many years. When we can, we also bring along our furry housemate whom I adopted from the pound during college.

The reality is we’ve lived overseas for several years, and the pup is nearing 12 years of age. So we haven’t traveled with him as much as we wish. This paragraph is really an opportunity to share his adorable face with the world. You’re welcome.

The permanant roommate and I are also both in the military – that crazy, chaotic career I mentioned. I feel obligated to share that in the event you see snippets of that part of our lives. And let the world know the items on this site are wholly my opinion and do not reflect the views of the Department of Defense.
